Picked this up at the brewery when it was released and yes, I'm a hophead like most people that wait in line at Other Half but I'm also addicted to anything that they've released as they're totally nailing it right now. With that in mind, they somehow won me over with this brew since I'm not a huge fan of American Double / Imperial Pilsners!
This had a relatively typical Other Half pour as the liquid was brassy, opaque, and quietly radiant. Topped off with a sufficient head, there were a few thin and soapy rings of lacing left behind as I worked my way through this. Pilsner malt, melon, stone fruit, floral hops, and bread were in the muted nose as they were quite amplified in the taste. Slick from the Citra, the Mosaic gave this beer bite and dankness while the Ekuanot was present enough to lent a crisp, clean finish with a hint of mint and herbalness that one would expect from a lager. Plenty of carbonation and a white grape/champagne like bite kept this light as the more dank fruit flavors lingered in the aftertaste long after the liquid went down.
The amount of alcohol in this was spot-on as I could feel a slight buzz and warming effect once I finished this off. Canned on 9/11 of this year with "#5 IS ALIVE (a Short Circuit reference, perhaps?) written below it, this was a really nice surprise as the crispness and sensual clarity of this was a welcome change from more aggressive brews that I've become accustomed to. A fun concept that worked from start to finish, begging the question of why Other Half hasn't done more offerings like this!
