Had the Monkish take on this right before reviewing this beer and thankfully, I was able to get my hands on a can of this as well. Dated 2/21/18 on the bottom of the can with "MONK HALF" written below it, this was a beast of a beer that easily deserved it's lofty rating on here. It held up well over time and was so enjoyable that I regret not getting more of this when I had the chance to!

The pour to this was interesting with the liquid having a murky, orange blossom hue with a frothy head and quite a bit of lacing left behind. Can't say that I've ever had a beer that had this appearance but then again, it's not often that I get my hands on a can with two big-time brewers on the label! Once the foam settled down, it was time to give this a whiff as there were massive hints of the aforementioned orange blossom, jack fruit, nectarine, and prickly pear sticking out. Tropical notes, bright desert fruits, underlying dankness, and strong lychee entered the mix once I gave this a sip as it was so sweet, sticky, and full - all at the same time. Chewy oats and hints of bright wheat elevated this up a level as they balanced out the juicy and hoppy notes beautifully while hiding the alcohol at the same time. Sticky and syrupy, the mouthfeel was a lot to handle but fully capable of complementing everything else that was going on here.

Yes, this was a strong beer but the alcohol was on par with everything else that was going on here. I know this old when I cracked it open but it held up well and easily showcased the best aspects of both parties involved in it's creation. Tasty, enjoyable, and easy to quaff, this was a clear winner that showed that full potential of a New England IPA. Shame I wasn't able to get my hands on more of this!

L: pours thick dark orange hazy with a big head
S: huge citrus, tangerines and oranges jump out of the glass.
T: just like the nose, wow, this is straight juice. This don't taste like beer, haha. Amazing there is not even a hint of alcohol in this and it's 10%
F: super thick and ultra creamy. Not drying or bitter at all, awesome drinking ipa
O: amazing! Best ipa I've ever had

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 2/21 so about three weeks old.

Pours a thick, dark orange almost light brown color. Completely opaque with a quickly dissolving white head. Smell is subtle, little bit of booze and a touch of pineapple. Taste is boozy with a bit of sweetness at the end. I'm not getting much bitterness at all and not getting much fruit either. Medium body that sticks around.

LGA 2 LGB - Other Half feat. Monkish
IIPA - 10% abv
Canned 2/21/18 (25 days ago)

L - 1.5 finger bright white head atop a dark, muddy, completely opaque orange body.

S - orange, some booze, some candy sweetness. Not a lot going on here.

T - boozy right from the start. Candied citrus next. Some tropical fruit flavors. Very, very sweet and boozy. Low bitterness.

F - medium-full body with typical low carb.

O - I much prefer the Monkish take on this beer. This one swings too boozy and sweet for my liking.

The beer pours a murky yellow with a medium sized white head. It has low carbonation. It smells of orange rind, mango, melon, and white peppers. The beer tastes of orange rind, mango, melon, and white peppers. It’s full bodied with no bitterness, but quite boozy. I did not enjoy this beer is wasn’t well balanced and had an off putting peppery taste on the back end.

No canned on date.

Pours a hazy golden orange. Patchy lace and frothy white head.

Subtle, even nose. Sweet malt, booze, citrus. Pineapple, tropical sweetness lingers.

The boozy bitterness comes off strong right away, surprisingly for a DIPA. Still very tasty, slightly stinging. Citrus comes back, mango lingers. Very good.

Smooth, creamy, juicy. Finishes sticky, great mouthfeel.

Drank on tap at Trillium Garden at the Substation, Boston, MA
Served in a Willi Becher

Completely opaque, yellow ochre appearance. The turbid body was topped by an immensely tight and frothy, inch-tall, bright white crown that slowly faded to a lasting collar. Some spotty, streaky lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was fruity and bright but slightly more subtle than I anticipated. Peach and nectarine notes came through strong. Lots of mango too. Good amount of citrus as well. Juicy orange notes were most apparent. Fair amount of malty sweetness. Bit of weed-like dankness.

The flavor profile was outstanding. Super hoppy and punchy. Peach and nectarine notes dominated. Loads of mango as well. Quite malty and sweet up front but well balanced overall. Citrus appeared as the beer moved along the palate. Big, juicy orange creamsicle notes. More orange and orange peel on the back end and in the finish. Just the slightest hint of rind-like bitterness. Touch of lingering booze after the swallow.

The mouthfeel was amazingly creamy, slick and smooth. Super frothy and supple on the palate. Quite viscous and full bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, moderate, tongue blanketing effervescence.

In addition to being super hoppy, triple IPAs are usually quite malty and sweet, and LGA 2 LGB is no exception. With that said, this beer was phenomenal. Folks that dig hoppy milkshake-like juicebombs should definitely appreciate this.

Canned 2/21/18, Acquired on release date 2/24/18 from brewery, Enjoyed shortly after. Poured vigorously into the proper platinum teku.

Look: Deep orange haze that is dense and murky, but well blended, no sediment. Gorgeous 2 finger white cream foam head that lingers and laces.
Smell: syrup, sugar, tropical fruit, ocean breeze, bubble gum, cotton candy, weed, dank, mold.
Taste: Fresh Pineapple Juice. Still sweet as hell up front, but not unpleasant at all, very earthy, creamy, citrus, tropical, tangy, dank. Aftertaste is savory and sweet/sour that brings you back wanting more and more.
Feel: Strong and syrupy at first that evens out to a nice acidic feel. Alcohol is non-existent, and it is extremely enjoyable.
Overall: This is literally heavier to me than other beers. The weight in my hand is noticeably heavy for a beer. This is definitely due to the ingredients, but maybe i'm just imagining things. This will age fantastically, but is phenomenal fresh as well. This reminds me of King Julius, and has so many depths of flavor and feel. I wish they gave us more of this beauty.
