Picked this up back in June and since I was away for the whole summer, I only got around to it today. Quite strong for even a beer of this type, there was a lot to like here as this went down much easier than other imperials have. With that being said, this was still a beast but the coconut was strong enough to ease the overall potency of this!
This had a solid pour to it as the liquid was dark and topped off with a vigorous cocoa head that retreated very quickly and loudly at the same time. Once the head settled, it was just a dark, viscous liquid that remained as the lacing was only left in the form of a thin layer of bubbles at the top of my Teku glass. Tons of coconut on the nose with a roasted undertone, bourbon-like stickiness, and booze in the mix as well. All of those were present in the taste as this was quite potent and reminded me of something from Kona - without being watered-down and weak. Just a bit of powder could be felt from the cocoa nibs but this was more along the lines of brandy than anything else, as a nice, sweet slickness remained once the liquid went down.
Of course, I warmed up a lot while drinking this but never felt like I was taking on too much at the same time. The back end felt a lot like Frangelico or the like as it had the feeling of a strong and rich cordial. Lovely stuff but not the best I've had although if you like either of the brewers involved (like me), you'll get plenty out of this. A good Stout that could have been toned down a bit when all was said and done...
