This was the second iteration of Crickets that I picked up at Other Half a little over a year ago. Dated 12/06/18 with "WA-ITI + KOHATU" written underneath it, this was bright and lively for a German Pilsner and although it wasn't quite on the level of their more notable Stouts and IPA's, I enjoyed this beer and how accessible it was!
Bright, golden, and topped off with enough head, this could have easily been mistaken for a mass-market beer just based on appearance alone. Enough tropical fruit, Pilsner Malt, grain, and lemon could be found in the nose as the taste was just as earthy, grainy, and subtly slick. A bit of a skunky smell served as a reminder of what this beer's essence was but in the end, this was a Pilsner that almost tasted more like an India Pale Lager than something from Europe.
Not a lot of booze with this one and the carbonation was lively, spot-on, and kept everything heavier from weighing my palate down or lingering for too long. I know that most hopheads don't gravitate towards a beer like this but like nearly everything else from Other Half, this was nicely crafted and enjoyable. It's a plus that there's been multiple variants of this brewed!
