When new hop products become available we like to test them out. We got our hands on a cool new product, a Citra version, so we decided to test it out in our favorite all Citra beer. Long live innovation.

Let's face it - there's a reason that Other Half releases All Citra Everything, or versions of it, relatively frequently. It's a great beer with a popular and nearly universally-loved hop and this was a take on that that I wanted to get my hands on so I could see for myself if the hype was true. Sure enough, this was chock full of that hop but it wasn't quite what I was expecting but still had my attention from the get-go, down to the last sip...

Good pour to this as the liquid was muted, straw, and topped off with just enough head to offset what was below. Most of the lacing was in the form of a thick ring near the top of my pint glass. Only a few scattered splotches could be seen below it as that wasn't this beer's hallmark. Tons of citrus, mango juice, juicy lime, and bright floral notes in the nose as the taste had all of those as well. Bright lime, vanilla cream, tangerine, and plush hops rounded out the taste as this was such a smooth and enjoyable sipper. Danker citrus, turbid hops, and some minty, piney hops came through near the end once this warmed up but overall, this was a smooth beer with a sweet malt presence and easygoing flavor profile throughout my time with it.

Enough booze was in this as I warmed up a bit before I finished it off but it wasn't a distraction in any way, shape, or form. Canned on 3/14/19 with "PASTRY-FREE" written below it, this was not a beer for Pastrytown nor did it deserve to be. If you love Other Half or anything with Citra in it, seek this out. It will be well worth your time!

Can: Poured a fully hazy/cloudy yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention with some lacing. Aroma of huge citrusy hoppy notes with some dank floral undertones. Taste is also dominated by huge citrusy notes with some dank notes and floral undertones with some residual sugar notes. Body is completely full with good carbonation. Another enjoyable juicy creation from OH.

Pours an entirely clouded yellow color with a froth, medium sized head.

Packs an intense citra punch, unfolding gently and complex on the nose, with lots of dried oranges, lime pulp and a flowery note. Offers additional papaya and ripe grapefruits among a lighter note of sugared oranges.

Has a soft, smooth, fuller bodied mouthfeel with a light, refreshing effervescence during the finish.

Tastes of soft lime pulp, juicy oranges and dried grass together with a lighter hint of mango. Has a smooth and mellow middle part with sun ripened lemon and earthy, soft oranges and a nice, slowly uprising bitterness. Finishes with a light fruit sweetness, maintaining bitter limes and a whiff of rock sugar among whipped cream.

While the beer‘s complexity isn‘t over the top, compared to other offers of this brewery, it certainly convinces by its powerful balance. Its lime fruitiness finds a floral, bitter and juicy aspect, perfectly put into action by the beer‘s creamy, smooth mouthfeel.

A beautiful, golden orange in the glass, with a small head that hangs around briefly before morphing into sudsy lacing. Nose is actually fairly flat, with mellow notes of yeast and maaaaybe some grapefruit way off in the distance. Taste is pure citra goodness, and the body is as ideal as it gets for me. Really delicious. This experiment was a success.

L - 2-finger creamy white head atop a dirty yellow body.

S - light grapefruit, melon, herb.

T - lots of grapefruit flesh, melon pulp, orange candies, lime, and pineapple. Way cleaner tasting than the regular version. Super-smooth middle. Low bitterness. Moderate-low sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium body and carb.

O - an improvement on the already-grand original.
