Imperial Sour IPA with blackberries, lemon, marcona almonds, vanilla and milk sugar. This sour imperial IPA hopped with our hand selected Mosaic and Simcoe was brewed with 2-row, raw wheat and oats. Lemon gives the blackberry a brighter note and the almonds, vanilla and milk sugar round it all out.

To be fair - I love Other Half, probably to the point where I'm heavily biased because of all the wonderful beers and good times that I've had in the line share. Of course, I had to give it a go because of the label and this beer's description and yes, this was different. Not even remotely close to their typical fare, it's hard to see how this was an American Imperial IPA as this was more like something I'd have from Hudson Valley or Tilted Barn. By no means was this a letdown as much as it was categorized incorrectly or needed to be place into a new category of it's own!
This had the appearance of blackberries as it poured like murky juice with a fine, white sediment in it. That was probably my fault as this was canned on 4/22/19 with "YEAH YOU DO" written underneath it, which was a nice response to this beer's moniker! Like a Sour Ale, there wasn't much of a head or any lacing to be seen but I hardly noticed given how much of a surprise this was when I poured it out. Lots of dark sediment ended up at the bottom as this settled but it was hard to see given this beer's hue. Loads of blackberry, lemon, tartness, and vanilla in the nose as the sour aspects really came through in the taste. Not a lot of acetate or puckering in the mouthfeel as this was so smooth and juicy without feeling hoppy or boozy.
Indeed, there was alcohol here as the almond was quite hard to discern on the palate. No matter - this was full, slick, and tasty enough that it didn't last in my pint glass for very long. Can't say that I've ever had a beer of this style that was like this but it's surprises and unexpected pleasures like this that keep me coming back to Other Half. Love the Mondrian-style label as the beauty of this beer was it's composition and proportion of ingredients. I'd love to see them give this another go in a future release, as I do want more of this!

Beating Hudson Valley Brewery at their own game. This is straight up blackberry lemon sorbet, not much to say this an ipa at all though. Sweet and tart and delicious, very subtle almond undertone; medium full body and creamy. Delicious, just don’t expect an ipa here.
