A barleywine that is overwhelmed by its port barrelling to the extent that you do not know what you are drinking. Port smell up front. Very good, and could have been even better.

Like your beers rich, strong, and smooth? You've found your match here as this was all of those and so much more. I picked this bottle up a little over a week ago and like Other Half's recent bottled offerings, this was so smooth and enjoyable that I ddin't even care how much I spend on it. If you're into Barleywines like I am, this would be one to seek out!
The pour to this was quite nice as the liquid was a lovely shade of root beer or cream soda with the accompanying tan head and creamy bubbles to top it off. To my surprise, the lacing that was left behind wasn't discernible as that was the only bad attribute of this beer. Loads of barley, raisin, booze, and rye on the nose as the taste was quite strong but certainly not overpowering or overdone. The port wine barrel-aging came through on the palate as this was rich and leathery while feeling like there was plenty of crushed red grape skins in the fold as well.
A decent amount of booze could be found here as the amount of perceived rye lent itself to a strong mouthfeel and alcoholic presence throughout. Since there wasn't a lot of carbonation to be had, this beer was quite full and sticky as the end result was a brewed that could linger on the palate for quite some time. This was fun stuff that took a lot to fully savor but was easily worth it in the end, when all was said and done!
