A little love for a classic Utica dish. We hopped this with Motueka, Mosaic, Amarillo, Enigma, Simcoe, Mosaic Cryo and Simcoe Cryo.

16 oz. can. Hazy orange. Smells of acidic and tropical fruits, booze, and sweetness. Tastes of sweet tropical fruit with a zip of acidic fruit. Earthy back end. Medium heavy and fairly sweet. Big DIPA and not something I need much of.

Spent 5 and a half hours last Saturday at the Brooklyn brewery to get this. Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a Captain Lawrence muffin top taster; no production information.
A: Pours a cloudy, golden to aged brass color with a one to two finger, lemon chiffon head, more than rim retention, and solid rings of lacing.
S: I get barley, caramel, peach, and lime aromas. Pine in the background a bit.
T: Sweet to semisweet. Palate largely follows the nose, barley and now pepper a bit more in play. Modest bitterness, highly balanced, for the style.
M: Medium bodied with moderate effervescence. Creamy and tingly.
O: A really enjoyable flavor experience. Delicious.

Appearance: Pours cloudy and honey colored with a one finger head; splashy lacing
Smell: Papaya, melon, pith and pine; a bit of honeyed sweetness
Taste: Tropical elements forward, with the papaya, honey and melon tones; unusually bitter for Other Half, through the middle, with both grapefruit pith and pine flavors; residuals of all the flavors in the finish; hint of green onion, as well
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: Not your typical Other Half NE IPA; good balance
Thanks, devoured by vermin, for the opportunity

L - 1.5 finger foamy offwhite head atop a murky orange body.
S - grapefruit rind, orange, herb, potato, cabbage.
T - quite bitter grapefruit, orange, a touch of dank. Slightly dirty, vegetal middle, with noticeable booze on the finish.
F - medium-full body with appropriate carb.
O - love how bitter this is.

On tap at Other Half Rochester in Bloomfield, NY.
This one pours and milky hazy straw yellow color, with a small fluffy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like mango, lemon, lime, pine, orange, and grapefruit.
This has a pretty intriguing hop character - that's probably the Motueka poking through a bit. I get a nice herbal and clean bitterness, and some lime rind, along with sweet grapefruit and drippy mango. There's no real malt character, and no real booziness, despite the ABV.
This is creamy and rich, with a slightly bitter finish, and a high level of drinkability.
This is very tasty, and it's at least a tiny bit different than the 400 other DIPAs that OH has done.

This fits well within the expected look of a Other Half IPA, pouring a pulpy and creamy mango orange. Its paper white head is tightly knit but short lived.
Its remarkably bright and clean cut. Freshly squeezed orange juice, over-ripe mango, and Pinesol dominate. The split between tropical creamsicle and bitter, pithy greens is intriguing. It's so intensely concentrated, I get light headed smelling it for too long.
The taste leans slightly towards the greener, unripe, pithy side of things; more bracing and less refined than the nose. Green mango and bitter kumquat are evened out by smooth golden honey. A chewy, herbal bitterness lingers well past the finish.
The feel is an experience in itself. It's so big, with everything IPA cranked to full volume, yet still fits into a neatly folded, warming envelope that's concise and clean. The ultra fresh, snappy green cryo hop profile helps to lift its own weight and keep it from becoming too much and too overbearing. Where's the alcohol? I have no idea.
Stainless steel kept coming to my mind as I reviewed this. I think ultra clean, industrial, and highly concentrated. It's huge, yet easy drinking. It's a style they smash out of the park. It took me sitting down with it to really appreciate what Other Half does, beyond the hype that they have behind them.
