This was another beer that I picked up at Other Half a few months ago and got around to tonight as I continue to whittle my stash down. Never had a Crunchee beer before without fruit in it and this had to be one of the most unusual offerings that I've ever had from Other Half. It wasn't bad but it was certainly different, heavy, and maybe just a tad artificial for me!
Not surprisingly, the pour to this was a bright gingerbread with a moderate head topping it off and hardly any lacing left behind. Tons of bright, snappy ginger in the nose along the molasses and maple syrup stickiness as the taste was full of those to a slightly larger degree. Sweet and thick, this was a syrupy beer that lacked carbonation and felt like a Christmastime dessert in a can for the duration. A bit of brown sugar and almonds emerged once I got near the end as this warmed up, leaving me with nostalgic feelings of a holiday that was three months ago, but eons away compared to the current climate...
No date on the bottom of the can as this was spot-on when it came to the amount of booze in it. It was hard to pick out the other flavors that were listed but they gave this a nice, rounded mouthfeel that kept this from being one-dimensional. Can't say that I've ever had an American Imperial Stout quite like this but it's the variety in beer that keeps me coming back. While not a winner, this was fun and a must-try for someone looking for a brew on the edge of what's possible!

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a muddy brownish orange color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like gingerbread, obviously, with syrupy caramel, some light acidity, almond, and vague spicing.
I'm pretty convinced that the only Crunchees worth having are the ones with fruit/berries in them. This just feels confused, muddled, and messy, unfortunately. It's definitely more sour than Pumpkin Spice Crunchee, which is at least good.
This is definitely syrupy, with a soft level of carbonation. It's not super drinkable, due to how confusing the beer is.
This is over the top and very unnecessary. I can't really recommend it.
