Our version of Black is Beautiful is a big one with a good dose of our favorite cacao nibs from the Dominican Republic and Madagascar vanilla.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a tulip glass.
L - Pours a dark brown, almost black color with a slight tan head that lingers.
S - Smells of booze and chocolate.
T - The taste matches the smell, some alcohol warmth which mellows into chocolate, vanilla, and maraschino cherries on the finish.
F - Full bodied and slightly carbonated.
O - I thought this was an excellent boozy stout.

Picked this up recently at Other Half, as I had a few of the other Black is Beautiful iterations as well. This one was by far the strongest of them all but for some reason, didn't bowl me over with it's heft or taste. Sure, it's a nice example of the style as it was smooth and not terribly hard to drink but I'm not sure if the recipe constricted these guys from doing better with this one!
No surprise that the liquid was brown with a lively, mocha head topping this off. It looked smooth enough as it softly settled as it left behind webbed, uneven rings of lacing that coated much of the inside of my pint glass. Lots of rich chocolate, dark fruit, booze, with hints of bourbon and vanilla in the nose as the taste was just as rich, potent, and sticky. Not roasted in any sense, this was a Stout through and through without any hint of powder from the cacao nibs or overt malt presence. Cloying in the aftertaste, this was a smooth as a cordial with a finish that felt like an Imperial Coffee Stout that was aged in barrels.
Of course, this was strong and one of these was enough to start and end my session for the night. Amazingly, the alcohol wasn't easily felt as I didn't warm up much while enjoying this as a bit of it was on my breath after I finished this off. After having 450+ plus beers from Other Half, this was the first one that had the independent craft seal on it and it was nice to finally see it on a beer from my favorite craft brewery. While not among their best, this was a solid offering and a continuation on the All Together beers that set the standard for giving back during this wild year. Worth a go once to have an Imperial Stout during the dog days of summer...
