Went in last week to New York as it was the last warm weather that we'll have here this year, and of course I had to swing by Other Half to get their massive drop, as this was one of the beers that I wanted to try. For some reason, this was a bit underwhelming and plain although that's a rarity for them given how many luscious brews they've released over the years.
Decent pour to this as the liquid had a hazy, goldenrod hue to it with a thick head topping it off. Most of the lacing left behind was in a thick, but uneven, ring near the top with some light splotches the rest of the way down the side of my pint glass. A good amount of soft, tropical fruit was in the nose as there was some jack fruit, star fruit, lychee, and potato (yeah, really) with hints of lime, bitter grapefruit, and fruit cocktail under it. The Idaho 7 won out over the Simcoe and El Dorado as this wasn't terribly dank although some earthiness and slickness lingered in the aftertaste. This was a decent beer but for some reason, this was one of the few brews that I had from Other Half were the hops used didn't mesh well together in the end.
Thankfully, the alcohol was nearly hidden completely as I only felt a light buzz and smoothly warming sensation take hold before I finished this off. Canned on the 13th, this was as fresh as could be and just as soothing as what I've become accustomed to from these guys. Quite dank in the aftertaste, the Simcoe took hold late and was quite a change from my initial impression of this beer. This wasn't on the level of the other Diamonds that I've reviewed on here but it's fine to kick back with and the 4 different colored labels in my pack were a nice added bonus.
