Picked this up last week at Other Half in Brooklyn as it was the only beer from D.C. that was still there when I made it into the city on Friday. Of course, I'm happy that these guys expanded but even more happy that I was able to get my hands on this as this was one of the best brews that I've had from these guys in quite some time. Fresh, lively, and inviting, this did not stay in my glass for very long as was the epitome of what these guys are capable of.
This had a nice pour to it as the hue was a muted gold, hazy, and nicely bright. Plenty of rocky head lingered near the top as there were a few scattered splotches to be seen down the side of my pint glass. This had a lovely, deep citrus, floral, tropical, and dank aroma to it that filled up my glass nicely as the there were tons of pineapple, lime, white grape, melon, and dank fruit notes to give this quite the range, as all of them burst out from the first sip onward. Slick, bright, dank, and juicy at the same time, the Citra was easily balanced out by the experimental HBC630 hop as this had the feel of champagne down to the brut bitterness and lively carbonation that had me wanting another sip as soon as I finished the last one off. Lots going on here but somehow, this all meshed well together as it was an easy winner from the get-go.
Of course, the amount of alcohol in this was irrelevant as I could hardly taste it and only felt it right before I finished this off. The malt was basic, but present, as this was balanced beer with a dank undertone that quickly took a hold of me and never quite let go. A ton of melon and cantaloupe rind lingered in the aftertaste as this beer got heavier and heavier as I worked my way through it. This might have called for a chaser of water to get it down but as it is was, this was a masterpiece of a brew worthy of their new location in our nation's capital. Glad to get my hands on this as this was a worthy collaboration. although a date on the bottom of the can would have been nice!
