Other Half Brewing Co. "Diamond Fangs"
16 fl. oz. can coded "11/24/20" and sampled on 12/10/20
Notes via stream of consciousness: This one was brewed in Bloomfield, NY. I had no idea that Other Half had gotten so big. Anyway, this has poured a murky khaki colored body beneath a full head of creamy white foam. The aroma is fairly strong, and resinous, citrusy, floral, and herbal. It reminds me of something specific but I cannot recall what it is. It's hard to pick out individual notes but I got some lime and passion fruit. On to the taste then... wow, it's much more citrusy than I thought it would be, but again with the lime. There's also some peach, more of the passion fruit, and some tangerine. What really makes it work though are the resinous, earthy, floral, and herbal notes that you get in the end! It's kind of spicy, yet woody, perhaps like Cedar. There's a light touch of pine resin to it as well, and mint. I wonder if the mint was was I was finding upfront because I kept thinking of my garden but then the citrus would throw me off. Whatever it is, it's interesting and unusual. I get the lime upfront, and then the mint. Wow, I just got a note of coconut as well. The malt is basic as usual, and there may or may not be oats in there but I can't tell with all of the hop flavors. The herbal and spicy character really helps to dry it, and I wonder if there's some alcohol at work too. How strong is it? 6.5%... nah, that shouldn't do it. It's the hops, and probably a combination of the minty-spiciness and some acidic hop burn. Yeah, this is good. There's a lot of variation as it crosses the palate with lime, other tropical fruit, coconut, and then cedar-spice and mint (perhaps some Sorachi Ace?). I've definitely never had a beer anything like this. So, what else? The head actually held up quite well and I've still got a thin but full surface covering. The lacing is quite good as well. I'm going to have to go 4.5 on this one. In the mouth it's medium-light in body, and fairly crisp which probably helps to accentuate the lime and spiciness. Another great beer from Other Half, and here I've been ignoring them for who knows how long. Perhaps that's just because I haven't been able to find them, although I did try to stop by the last time I was in Park Slope (didn't work out). It's unusual, I'll give you that, but it's definitely worth trying.
