Poured cellar cold to a Glencairn glass. My cellar is colder now, so have to let it warm a bit to open up. Another inky black brew, but this one doesn’t even bother conjuring a head. Smells like Almond Joy with a back end of subtle banana.
Flavors are, like the 3, complex yet balanced. The cinnamon is also not overpowering in any way. Up front is molasses and maple sweetness, blended into a nice amalgam of bright and dark kinds of sweet. The coconut varieties take a middle seat, offering more creaminess to the feel than sweetness or toastiness. To really get the almonds, I found that letting the sip sit on the tongue for five or ten seconds really pulls out those subtle flavors. The bourbon and wood really strengthens with a long sip also. I really am surprised at how well they use the cinnamon, so far in 3 and now 4. It is a hint, a splash, that highlights toward the back of the flavor. I’m not very familiar with Thai banana, so finding the flavor is a bit trickier for me to identify. I get nuances along the way, at sort of random moments.
This seems more dominantly poised as a true dessert stout, but much like Mortalis BA stouts, the bourbon and wood do a good job of sharpening those sweet edges.
Mouthfeel is excellent with a full and creamy experience, offering long-lasting flavors to contemplate.
15% ABV brings some subtle warming, perfect as I sit in the “three season room.”

Dark brown appearance with a slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a mild coconut, almond, and coco. Taste is also a mild pleasant blend of coconut, almond and coco.
