On tap at Other Half Domino Park
Somehow I’ve spent a whole week in New York without hitting Other Half until now (or any brewery for that matter). I’ve been going to all the Jeff Rosenstock shows at Warsaw and knew I’d have to come here at some point in the week. I’m kinda surprised to see a Hefeweizen on their menu so my curiosity got the better of me. Let’s see how they handle this classic style
Pours a hazy yellow gold with a finger of soapy white head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is pretty standard but there’s a brightness to it. I’m picking up on aromas of banana bread, sweet honey, bubblegum, orange zest, bread crust, grass, raw grain, lemon zest, earthy wheat, and light white grape
Sadly it falls apart a bit in taste, lacking much definition of the style. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, bread crust, grass, lime zest, sweet honey, light banana, and bubblegum. The swallow brings notes of doughy malt, raw grain, honey, grassy hops, lemon zest, banana bread, and light bubblegum
A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes neutral and a bit sweet
This one isn’t bad, but it’s certainly lacking a bit. Plus it’s always sad to see pathetic head formation and retention in this of all styles
