Snowbirds is one of our most popular stout brands and is an annual collaboration with J. Wakefield. The adjunct combo of almonds, coconut, toasted coconut, and cacao nibs is reminiscent of a chocolate candy bar that has almonds and brings people joy.

This one appears jet black and passes no light through a double-walled snifter glass. The head is thin, fine, and dark walnut. As shallow as the head is, it quickly dissipates, allowing thin, sinuous legs to coat the glass after each sip.
The aroma is strong and sweet. It's difficult to discern which of the following takes prominence: coconut, marzipan, or chocolate. Roasted malt holds the background.
The flavor nicely follows the nose, however, it has light bitterness, and sweetness is slightly less than expected. The malt blends well with the cocoa and the coconut, while the almond paste plays off of vanilla. The finish starts strong, then lingers as a mild reflection of the above.
The body is dense with a syrupy texture. Alcohol is well represented, yet mild for 13.8%.
This is a great beer to sit back and mellow out with outside on a hot and sunny summer Sunday afternoon.

Pours pitch black, zero head. Phenomenal aroma: gooey coconut and almond paste. Perfect sweetness, loads of coconut and almond paste cookies. Thick and creamy, has a unique tartness to it. Overall a fantastic BA pastry stout, glad I bot 2. Liquid almond joy.

2024 release. Poured into a snulip glass at 56° Black, oily appearance. The medium-mocha-colored cap fizzled away instantly leaving just the thinnest film of lacing. Highly aromatic nose featuring rich chocolate, caramel, coconut, and roasted nuts. Very flavorful with big milk chocolate, toasted coconut, caramel, almonds, and a hint of dark fruit. The taste is akin to a Hershey's Almond Joy candy bar. The bourbon barrel influence is gentle but warming. This Stout has a thick, almost chewy, mouth feel with mild carbonation, and the 13.8% ABV is very well-hidden. It's a sipper and better a shared sipper. Overall, I give this Snowbirds 7 variant high marks for simulating the Almond Joy experience we all loved as kids.

Grabbed a bottle Jan 2024 at OH FLX.
Wonderful collab variant with J Wakefield.
Look is dense black with rich walnut and ruby accents to light around rim. Very brief tan orange head/ no lacing or halo…consistent with brew and high abv. Nose is welcoming toasted coconut with some malty dark fruit and roast. Flavor mirrors with Cacao joining the dance. Playful/flavorful. Nicely enhanced original BA brew without overly added adjuncts…same or other. Very smooth with some light carbonation and abv burn. Pleasant. Maybe a bit syrupy.
Overall, this kind of brew has fans and non-fans. I’m a fan and find this a very nice dessert stout sipper. Poured first half at cellar 60 degrees; then fridged remainder while enjoying first pour. Refrigerating down to 55 brightened the beer a bit and I found it better.
Though (LOL) enjoyment of second half of an 13.8% stout may have been influenced by more than chilling.
Also second half went extremely well with a warmed up Michael Jackson inspired Carbonnade Flamande. Excellent accompaniment to the Belgian beef dish.
