100 Mile Lager wouldn't be a truly Ontarian offering if it didn't retain at least a little chill haze to temper its bright, sunny, golden complexion - no way a Canadian beer can look entirely summery. Still, this lager has a strong radiance. It also supports a modest amount of head.
Though its producers proudly affirm sourcing hops from 3 independent local growers, the aroma doesn't exactly boast this fact. It goes without saying an IPA would have done a lot more to support these farmers! Everyday lagers like this are not by design overtly hoppy and, indeed, this one sticks to the script and offers only minimal grassy notes.
Likewise, the flavour is more suited to those who like their beers mild and malty (though that's not to say the tastes of grass clippings and flower buds don't carry over onto the palate - they do). Without question, however, the barley farmers are better represented in this offering, which has a fairly broad, very substantial maltiness and flavours of bread, dough, and biscuits.
All that being said, the aftertaste is a bit of a different beast altogether; the pungency of the hops become felt all of a sudden, ringing out with a bitter herbalness and raw spice. It's nothing devastating, mind you, but definitely appreciable. Turns out, all that bready sweetness cowers like a baby hyena in the midst of a pride of grown lions. It doesn't stick around at all.
Drinking a beer made exclusively from locally sourced ingredients is an easy concept to get behind, but it's not a project most consumers will unquestionably support on principle alone. It needs to taste good and warrant the asking price. I'd say 100 Mile Lager does, and it is, albeit maybe not enough to get me back buying more. Nonetheless, this is a solid launch for a wonderful initiative.

The beer looks crisp and clean. Good amount of head and carbonation sticks around. It smells like your average Bud or Canadian. There isn't anything special about this beer. The can makes it look like this beer may be a hoppy beer, but it isn't. It is blaw...
For the price I would rather drink a Bud. They need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Golden yellow, one finger of white head with a few spots of lace. Smell is of crisp grainy malt, touches of fruit, light grassy/lemony hop presence, some honey/graham cracker notes as well. Taste is malty and grainy, earthy, light bitterness mid palate, lemony aftertaste with a faint lingering citrus. Lightly carbonated dry medium body. I prefered this to the 100 mile ale, easily drinkable, nothing to get too excited about but still pretty good.

Clear gold under a moderate head that settles to a film, consistent spotty lace.
Subdued, grassy, malty nose. Slightly sweet to start, bitter and drying finish. Fulsome mouthfeel. Unremarkable, overall a touch too sweet and a little sticky on the palate.
A very average brew.

A - Pours straw-ish golden. Bright with good carbonation. Two fingers of white head faded to a single finger pretty quick. Spotty lace and a film of retention.
S - Straw, a little bit of corn, some noble hops, grainy, sweet grain, apple, pear.
T - Sweet grain, lot's more corn, a little noble hop.
M - Carbonation seems a bit weak for the style. Medium, oily body. Sweet grainy finish.
O/D - Smelled pretty good, but didn't really follow through. Like spinrsx said, it's a step above macros, but not much better than that. OK. Probably won't revisit.

473 ml can purchased from LCBO for $2.95 CDN. Served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Yellowy, golden color. 2.5 fingers of very foamy white head. Fewer bubbles rising to the the top of the beer than expected. Head leaves decent lacing and lingers for a bit in the process.
Smell - Grassy, some mild grains and not a lot else. Nothing off-putting.
Taste - Grainy, some bitterness in the back end but nothing extraordinary. A touch maltier than originally expected based off appearance and aroma.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and crisp, with a good dry finish. Medium-low carbonation.
Overall - Not a bad lager, but not terribly inspiring either. Worth a try but other frequently available options are better and cheaper.

Tall can from the Ottawa LCBO for $2.95
Appearance - Clear yellow colour with a huge size fizzy white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for only a few minutes.
Smell - Corn, breads/grains, hops
Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste corn, hops, and bread/grains. There are also some hay/straw and it ends with a slightly bitter hop aftertaste.
Overall – Nothing special.. just a notch above the macros and not really worth the price tag. Not something I'd buy again.
