On nitro tap at the King’s Head in Portland, ME.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a fluffy white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells quite bready, with some smoke, and lots of chocolatey aromas.

This is definitely a really solid dry Irish stout, with a nice floral and spicy bitterness, with some very light smokiness. There’s lots of roast and chocolate here, too, and it’s well balanced.

This is light bodied, but creamy, and not as thin as some examples of this style can be.

Bissell truly does every single style well.

(nitro pour in a not so clean pint glass at the brewery)

L: surprisingly pale for a stout, a hazy not so dark brown... the head and lacing starts off promising, but each disappointingly dissipates

S: roasted barley in technicolor, sporting the nuttiness of the grain, with subtle light roast coffee notes... vibrant expression

T: much the same as the nose on the palate... delicate underlying molasses sweetness, which opens up getting more caramelly as it goes... maybe some earthy hop in the malt soup... the roasted barley is blasting front of palate, but it's leaving me craving some grainy/malty subtlties back of palate and in the aftertaste... verging on extra roasty brown ale?

F: not terribly rounded at first, kind of a concave trough mid palate, with some faint flaked grain plushness coating the inner jowls; its body plumps up later... the roast and carbonation leaves a peppery, acidic tingle on the tongue

O: a showcase for roasted barley, but it's somehow lacking depth... its pale color is a bit off-putting... I dig the aggressive roast, but its look and body need tweaking (2523)
