A fresh hopped "Italian pilsner"
The third in our 2021 Fresh Hop Fiend series is a special one. Our Pilsner Fresh Hop Fiend is cold conditioned then transferred over HBC 586 fresh hops from our friends at Perrault Farms in Yakima. This pilsner is crisp and refreshing with aromas of mango, guava and citrus. Drink it fast and fresh!

Pale yellow color, with just a touch of haze, but it's clear enough to read through it. Excellent head production; good retention and lacing.
Rather dank and herbal nose, more in line with an IPL than any pilsner, but I suppose that's to be expected when an Italian Pils meets fresh hops.
Flavor follows: dank and resinous, with the hops front and center. Dank and resinous, with a tinge of citrus to round out the profile; hints of lemon and grapefruit peel. Very little showing from the earthy malt base.
Crisp and lively; drinks exactly as it should.
Can a pilsner take hopping to this extent and still drink like a pilsner? Not really, in my opinion. American-brewed "Italian" Pilsners are often bordering on IPL territory already, and this one I think crosses that line. There's little expression from the yeast or malt; this is all about the hops in a crisp and lively format. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, of course; my quibble is more with the style label than the presentation. If you're looking for a clean fresh hop experience, this beer certainly delivers.

Medium light, pure white head. Nearly clear, light straw color. Very light malt aroma with a smidgen of juniper. Very good malt and floral hop flavor with an ample El Dorado hop bite which sustains well while the malt taste dissipates.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 09/21/20. Bought it at Bottleworks earlier in the week.
Pours lightly hazy, very light yellow, with a mediumish head and a lot of carbonation. Smell is lager yeast, grass and leaves.
Taste is actually really refreshing. I get a surprising amount of honeysuckle, the lager yeast is either muted or somewhat drowned out. Hops come across, noticeable and fresh, contributing to somewhat juicy character. Definitely getting some lemon.
Mouthfeel is light and dry. Overall, very tasty brew.

16oz can served in a tulip. Dated 09/21/21. Basically same notes as least year. This is really good.
