16oz can served in a stemless BA rastal. Can is dated 02/13/25.
Pours black with a big (four finger) foamy head. Smell is pine, roast, lemon, maybe some lime, actually.
Taste is very stout-roasty, burnt coffee and grains. A little honeysuckle sweetness, almost simple syrup, but an intense pine bitterness rounds it out nicely.
Mouthfeel is light, airy, smooth. Nice beer.

Beautiful appearance. Lovely retention and lacing from the head.
Nose is mostly roasty malts. A kind of 'crisp' impression that could just be my imagination, but the aroma is dominated by the malts. It's the weakest link for the beer, but it's not a particularly weak link so it really says more about the composite whole than it does anything negative about the aroma.
Flavour is a perfect balance of bitterness and the warmer side, coming from both the malts as well as the hops. Bitter dark coffee and char blends well with a sharp earthy bitterness that could have elements of pine or almost berries. It's definitely an IPA, but one that has figured out where the hops can meet darker malts instead of lighter ones.
Bitter finish lingers and lingers.
This is a great example of how to do a style really well. The world needs more CDAs in general, and this is a great example of why that's true.
