The name makes this beer sound way better than it actually is. If you want tropical, stick to NE ipas. This is your basic ipa, that is probably too malty with a but of tropical fruit and citrus notes. Not a tropical ipa by any means as there are other ipas not labeled as tropical that bring a bigger fruit punch to the table.

i think its awesome these guys have rebranded and launched a bunch of new beers. the cans all look super sharp, and for the ones i have had, all the beers seem better than the ones they replaced. this is the only exception, and while i like the green can with the tiki guy on it, i dont much care for the beer. its heavy for what it is, and any tropical hop character that the name promises is swallowed up almost entirely by an overly robust malt complexion, a little sweet and with a ton of body and baked warming elements, maybe better in the fall than the spring, but it leaves us with little more from the hops than finishing bitterness, which is a real shame. its a little metallic and a little sweet too, still well carbonated and i can drink it when its cold, but it falls apart with a little bit of temperature, and i find myself just short of choking down the second half of the can. faint canned pineapple when i force it in my head, and maybe a little generic citrus, but this is far from the tropical hop profile i have come to expect from better beer when that term gets used. they need to down the grain and up the hops pretty substantially here for this to stand a chance of hitting the mark it claims to be shooting for...
