i thought this was excellent. worthy of a world beer cup gold? im not sure. its very good and very german, authentic to me for sure, and a huge upward swing in quality for rockyard brewing, this rebrand and relaunch and reworking of beers seems to have already paid off with this one. congrats to them on the medal, thats a big deal! the beer is mostly clear with a short but persistent white head and a nice fresh pilsener malt nose, dry cracker and cereal, crumbs and crusts, bready but dry and light still. the hops are lighter than most czech styles and dont seem to be saaz, but still have a light noble complexion, grassy more than anything else, minimally bitter both in nose and in taste. i like it not being hoppy like these are trending, i guess there is some soft citrus here, but its easy going, well integrated, and not forced at all. smooth and cohesive and with a decidedly german flare to the lager yeast, which tastes and feels efficient and patiently lagered. crisp at the end but not overly so, and it warms up well if you let it sit that long. tons of flavor, fresher than any import, and an impressive beer overall. this should kill it for them this summer! i love the obvious german nature of it.
