Had on tap at the brewery.
On arrival 2 fingers of fine, just barley off white head sat on top of a light amber, verging on brass colored body. Head settles down to a very thin covering of bubbles.
Aroma is malty and has some slight toasty, and nearly roasty nutty notes, but there is also an earthy and herbal hop aroma. The aroma could be a bit bigger, but it's clean.
Flavor is much less malt forward, with the hops sticking out the most. A herbal, earthy, and bright floral note with some bitterness and fruity flavors sits right up front. The malt does come through with a light sweetness that mixes with the hops. The yeast isn't playing a huge role, but is present. There is a slight hop burn like thing going on.
Feel is quite full with a long finish. There is a dryness that comes with the finish and is also seemingly caused by the hops. Not as easy drinking as I'd like and the dryness is verging on unnecessary astringency.
Overall this is a fine, but almost mediocre ESB, if that's even what this beer is supposed to be. Slightly astringent, and a bit too heavy. The bitterness doesn't come off as completely natural for some reason.
