Poured from 16oz can into a tumbler. No date on can; brewed for Rincón by Second Self in Atlanta.
Appearance: medium amber hue with a light-to-moderate haze and a thin layer of ivory foam atop.
Smell: very malty with an earthy/piney hop character. A bit on the sweet side; reminds me a bit of a classic American strong ale. But this beer is billed as an IPA, so it's just okay.
Taste: piney, earthy, resinous hops atop a rather sweet and strong malt base; bitterness is relatively high. Again, this is reminiscent of an American strong ale, though with more hop character than the aroma. There could be some age at play here; since there's no date on the can, there's no way to tell.
Mouthfeel: rich body with a good carbonation and actually a pretty good creaminess.
Overall: this isn't a poorly-made beer at all, but I feel like it ranges outside the "new normal" for 8+% IPAs. If you like old-school malty IPAs or strong ales, then perhaps this will be for you.
