I’ve only had 2 beers from Plan Bee, and both were very good. Their beers are quite expensive, so it’s rare that I pick them up. That being said, I remember someone in a thread a few months back had recommended this one, so when I saw it at Half Time I jumped on it. Let’s see what this unique Wild Ale has to offer
Pours a cloudy reddish purple with a finger of pinkish white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is shockingly subtle, but wonderfully nuanced. I’m picking up on aromas of tart blueberry, lemon juice, drip coffee, wet hay, charred oak, tobacco, light maple syrup, and leather
It’s similar in taste, but every note is dialed up in intensity. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting jammy blueberry, lemon juice, dark roast coffee, sharp oak, maple syrup, brown sugar, wet hay, and leather. The swallow brings notes of tart blueberry, sharp oak, dark roast coffee, earthy bourbon, burnt caramel, wet hay, brown sugar, red grape, light maple syrup, and char. The sweeter notes are amplified as it warms but it’s still wonderfully funky
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a sharp yet smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry and funky, drinking remarkably below its abv
Oh yeah, this is incredible. It’s not as maple and coffee forward as I was expecting, but it’s integrated so well. I might have to pick up another bottle at some point
