Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy, dark brownish bronze with a fizzy one finger light khaki head that dissipates to a persistent thick cap. Aroma of biscuit malt, piney and citrus hops, oaky vanilla and spicy whiskey. Flavor is biscuit and pale malt, piney and citrus hops, whiskey, oaky vanilla, pine and lemon. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A big, bold triple IPA with great whiskey barrel character. Oddly, the spicy barrel aroma struck me as closer to a gin barrel profile, perhaps from the piney hops, but the taste is solid whiskey. Pleasant old school pine and citrus hop bill. Triple IPAs are rare and it seems odd to barrel age one, but this was great. I'm impressed. I do wish that this 13% monster was in a smaller format; the 19oz. can is just too much for something this big. Still, although I'm going to regret it in the morning, it tastes fine.
