Poured from a freshly-filled crowler into a shaker glass. It pours virtually black with a modest, light khaki head and minimal lacing. The smell includes roasted malt, dark chocolate, freshly-brewed coffee, caramel, nutty char, and a whiff of black cherry. It has a classic Stout taste of baker's chocolate, acidic coffee, burnt nuts, earthy char, and a hint of dark fruit. It finishes with a good dose of hoppy, peppery bitterness. Its mouth feel is fairly thick and creamy with moderate carbonation. Although this batch has a higher ABV of 10%, it's nonetheless easy to drink. Overall, it's a straightforward American Stout without unnecessary adjuncts. It's very solid.

On tap at the brewery taproom in NJ.
Appearance. This looks like motor oil with a tan head.
The body is full, slick and oily with the high ABV mostly hidden.
Lots of dark roasted grain flavor but with a touch more burnt-smoky aspect than I'd prefer. Stays sweet but finishes mildly bitter.
