Reflecting the Scottish tradition of brewing beer with a small amount of hops so as to avoid unnecessary interaction with British traders (the bastards), our Scottish Ale is a rich, smooth, malt-focused beer that pours incredibly dark. Nutty Marris Otter malt provides deep hits of caramel, coffee, and chocolate in both the aroma and flavor. Like a drinkable kilt for your gullet.

Poured from undated can into a pint glass. It pours a cloudy, iced tea color with a modest, ecru-colored cap and minimal lacing. The aroma is malty with caramel sweetness and whiffs of tobacco smoke and peat. The taste is more than I expected. It has nice notes of chocolate malt, along with caramel, black cherry, and earthy peat. It's not the most flavorful Wee Heavy I've had but it has good depth of flavor. I have no complaints about the mouth feel. It's creamy with appropriate carbonation and this batch is 7.2% ABV which gives it lots of substance. Overall, I was prepared to be underwhelmed but this is a solid Scottish Ale.

Dark brown, dense, with a half finger tan head that quickly dissipated. Aroma of malts, caramel, some nuttiness, a tinge of smoke. The flavor follows suit. Carbonation is medium with some back end sharpness. Medium in the heft department. This is a Scottish ale worth giving a go.

Brown color, thick white head that lingers. Spice aromas. Notes of coffee, caramel, and spice balanced on a solid malt backbone. Quite a bit of carbonation, but it doesn’t feel harsh.

Weird tasting beer, almost tastes like smoked sausage. Very strong smoky taste. Did not care for the taste at all and I love Scottish Ales.
