Pours a ruddy red brown, 1 finger of light tan head, settles to a persistent rim

Aroma is somewhat scant, cherry & oak

Flavor is a big sour cherry assault, lemony acidic bite. Cranberry, vanilla and oak lurking

Mouth feel is fairly thick for the abv and style. Bit astringent from the acid

Overall a fabulous beer, very solid autentic flanders sweet & sour cherry notes, bit more oak than typical for the style, but that's more a feature than a demerit

a super neat beer here, big thanks to my buddy for sharing, my first from these guys, and something a little different to say the least. a wild flanders red type as a base, but with a whiskey barrel treatment from what i gather, a cool mix of america and the old world here in one beer, and the execution is impeccable. deep mohogany colored brew with a short tan head but plenty of bubbles. the nose shows a little fruit vinegar, port wine, ripe strawberry, and a heavy vanilla and oak complexion redolent of bourbon. some sweetness from the grain comes first in the flavor, a long cooked almost barleywine-esque concentrated maltiness, bready and caramelized, cut off by some pretty sharp bacterial acidity. there are notes of booze soaked raisin, dried cherry and cranberry, and cream soda here too, with some nice mature woody funk to go along with the acid thats all over this. a little apple cider thing too, and then the bourbon, which is strong and long through the finish, carrying the malt sweetness through the end. its complex, is delicious, and its very unique. there is some red wine to this too, like it might be aged in those barrels too and blended together, i dont know how they make it, but i get american whiskey before red wine here. sturdy in feel for its lower abv, but lots of bubbles move it along. i was both surprised and impressed by this, and will be on the lookout for more from these guys. this is strikingly unique.
