Opaque, deep brown/black. Small foamy head that fades with little retention.
Coffee-heavy on the nose. Fantastic. Very earthy with undertones of burnt malt and vanilla beans. Taste follows through with roasty coffee being dominant, along with a hefty helping of burnt malts. A bit of ash and char bitterness. Vanilla comes through in the end nicely.
Lingering bitterness from the heavy coffee/malt aspects, lightly chalky with the vanilla smoothness being toned down a bit. Overall, a solid coffee-forward stout.

Lovely dark, near black brew with long-lasting dark beige foam in the Crooked Line tulip. Not much aroma. The coffee taste is pretty aggressive, but at least it tastes like today's brew. Malty but dry. Oh, there's apparently vanilla, and as it warms it comes through a little.
Rather rough and moderately bitter aftertaste. Lot's of burnt and otherwise abused malt. Label says 8.4% ABV. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Market in San Diego.
