Late last year we blazed through an unexpected hit of a canned sweet stout release. There were astronauts and maple syrup! There were grizzly bears and blueberries! There were DeLoreans! There was No Time To Explain!

We've applied that absurdly delicious finishing treatment to a mix of Fundamental Observation barrels filled throughout 2018, 2019 and 2020, then blended with a chewy, lactose-based sweet stout for a liquid that can only rightly be called: More Time To Explain!

Huge aromas of ripe blueberry and sweet maple syrup deliver waves of blueberry pancake-stuffed nostalgia. Bright blueberry opens the palate, then oaky vanilla from beans and barrel hit mid-palate, tempering the sweetness of a long, maple-rich finish. Lactose contributes a creamy mouthfeel on a velvety base that drinks like the Sunday morning of a three-day weekend.

In the first version of this beer, a massive amount of maple escapes as I pry open the cap. I am serving the beer at 50 degrees in a tulip glass. The pour created a frothy, foamy, half-fingered, tan head with below-average retention. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is inky black, with dark rusty brown hues, semi-transparent, and charting at SRM 32. Overall, it is an average showing for a high-ABV stout.
Nosing the glass, I smell toffee, medium-roasted coffee, a skosh of char, wood, whiskey, Maillard, blueberries, chocolate, pancakes, maple dates, treacle, caramel, earthiness, dark-roasted malts, and malty sweetness.
Sipping the glass, I taste maple, milk chocolate, char, resin, whiskey, toffee, coffee, molasses, caramel, dates, blueberries, earthiness, malty sweetness, and vanilla.
The mouthfeel is smooth, and the finish is silky smooth. The body is heavy and low in carbonation.
The maple, blueberries, and coffee are vibrant and flavorful, bringing depth and complexity to an excellent soup base. The beer is brimming with flavor and sophistication. The aging did wonders for it. I am glad I am sipping on this today.

A decent dessert stout if you like blueberry, but not what I've come to expect of the Bottle Logic's Stasis Project Series beers; I guess you have to read the labels if you're looking for barrel aged beers and tasting some rum or bourbon, etc. This one is barrel aged but with no liquor mentioned, and none tasted, so my miss... Lactose, thick, blueberry, all those guys were there, but not what I'm looking for when I drink a BL Statis Project...anyway, good beer if you want that, but not for me. Cheers!

500ml bottle - release 2021 - batch *001*

Pours black with a thick dense creamy light brown foam head with good retention. Smells like sweet maple syrup, fresh blueberries, waffle dessert, dark chocolate, vanilla cream, bourbon oak, with a mild hint of earthy hop to balance. Tastes incredibly well balanced, fairly sweet with creamy vanilla notes, bourbon oak barrel, maple syrup, fresh blueberries, dark chocolate, roasted malts, waffle dessert, with a mild hint of earthy hop. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a really great bourbon barrel aged breakfast stout with lactose, blueberries and maple syrup.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a thick black with almost no head. The nose is really nice. I wasn't sure how this would come together, but the mix of maple syrup, vanilla, and blueberry is great. A touch of bourbon to round things out.

The taste is good. A bit on the sweet end of things, but nice flavors. The blueberries really hit here, but it's actually really nice with the bourbon. Milk chocolate, lactose, maple, graham cracker, cinnamon bread, and some wood.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall, a really nice beer.

2001 Vintage, good way to start off the new year, here's to another lousy millennium (2024-3024).
Pours a small fizzy brown head of bubbles that fades quickly, inky thick jet black beer stains the glass a bit, no real lacing, but decent legs

Nose starts like a big imperial stout, dark roasted malts, with layers of chocolate, cocoa, choc ganache, a bit of fudge, caramel marshmallow and nougat, a little nutty, plenty of barrel characters with vanilla, some coconut even, baking spices, maple syrup in the background, a bit of doughy batter like pancake kinda thing, don't really get bourbon or blueberry but could be age

Taste brings more rich chocolate, blueberry jam comes in quickly, juicy sweet jammy blueberry, cocoa, chocolate fudgey, then barrel with more vanilla, baking spices, a hint of cinnamon even, faint bourbon, into some dark stout roasted malt and a bit of coffee, followed by the maple syrup which is at a nice level again not over the top, the blueberry and maple lead to a fig jam like character as well, mild bitterness mostly from the roasted malt characters, some smooth perfumey alcohol, a bit of a creamy lactose adding a vanilla ice cream character on top of a rich moist chocolate cake and cake batter, sticky sweet thick finish, coats the mouth, a bit more tingly alcohol late

Mouth is full bod, rich, thick, chewy and mouth coating, a bit syrupy, lower carb but OK for the style, some warming and tingly alcohol

Overall quite nice, I do like all the characters that homogenize well, nothing over the top, blueberry in the initial taste was a pleasant surprise, maple was more subtle, barrel added nice characters, another winner from Bottle Logic

Pours dark, but not as dark as most stouts, with a quickly dissipating tan head, and then leaves a couple floaties. Love the smell-strong scents, well balanced: presence of blueberry, vanilla, maple, roasted dark malt, barrel. Taste follows the same: very sweet, very fruity, very tasty. Big body, a slight bit of oil slick thickness, strong booze assertiveness. All in all, this is a great beer. Would be wonderful with a short stack of pancakes.

Another Bottle Logic bottle…another mystery. Will it be awesome or mundane? Right now we’re at about 38% of the former. Let’s hope this 500ML runs that direction. Split with my wife.

The pour is blacker than a blueberry, surely, & the aroma…wow. They nailed the blueberry lactose thing to within a micron. Lovely.

More Time To Explain slaps like a Will. Another good fruit stout? I may have to re-examine my entire belief system (except for basketball, that sport sucks). The fruit – blueberry – melds seamlessly with a low, kicky bourbon & sweet malt, & that’s a nice trick. No tartness at all. Levels of maple, chocolate, are present but minimal, though the maple may be fading into the other ingredients. Thick. I like the lactose addition; sometimes it’s too much, but it works here. Too sweet to drink much of, glad I split this bottle minor with the wifey.

Thick, lovely, & well-crafted. This is an excellent beer.

Pours a not quite jet black with a half finger of tan head that dissipates quickly to a thin ring with little lacing. Aroma is predominantly chocolate and bourbon barrel with a trace of blueberry. Taste follows nose. Full-bodied.

Medium black opaque pour with a tan cap that fades into a collar. This reminds me a lot of saugatuck's bba blueberry maple stout but heavier and more viscous with coffee added. Blueberry, maple and big coffee blow up the nose with dark chocolate and bourbon supporting. Taste has blueberry first and foremost, then coffee, maple, then chocolate, then bourbon and finally a touch of vanilla, ending in a crescendoing meld of it all. The finish does have a residual sweetness, thus I would go with saugatuck BA in a head to head, but this is still really good

500ml bottle split between a few sample glasses. 2021 release.

Black, small head. Very slow, very fine carbonation. Smell is maple syrup with a little cooked blueberry. Anise, dark chocolate.

Taste is SWEET. Blueberry is strong. Maple is strong. A little coffee bitterness.

Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Overall...good, but too sweet for more than a sample. I will say it's one of the most successful blueberry beers I've had.
