this is not retired, its back, and its awesome, one of the best ive had from these guys, which is saying something because i like pretty much all of their beer! its a darker mild, although assuredly takes some of its color from the coffee its made with. chocolate brown color with a little shine and a fizzy tan head on it from the tap. aroma of fresh pulled espresso, lighter roast with tons of cocoa character, light woodiness, and subtle brown sugar as well, some english malts to this, lightly bready, clean on the ferment, some minerals, a touch sweet, cozy and intriguing and sexy to me, but i live for this sort of thing. its very coffee forward, but the grain profile in this is neither generic nor boring, and there is a european vibe to this even without any real yeast element. the coffee is the leader though, fuller bodied for such low alcohol, chocolate abounds, and there is no real bitterness or acidity to this at all. impressive balance and depth for such a drinkable beer, this is lovely stuff, i love the coffee flavor, its high end to me, and the dosing is excellent. exceptional beer in a style i wish more american brewers would play around with, this is brilliant with the java!

On tap at Prefunk Nampa.
A: Clear amber/brown body, simple lacing.
S: Bready/wort/brewery...coffee is weird smelling as well...coffee is definitely prominent.
T: Weird here too, is there a vegetal component to this coffee? Not quite nutty...there is some malt character but its not coming together for me.
MF: Slick and wet and light, with an unpleasant aftertaste.
O: I definitely prefer beers with more roast/malt/or even sweetness to back it up and offset...the flavors in this beer just do NOT come together for me.

Nice dark appearance. Mild aroma. Very mild coffee flavor. They can do better with the flavor and aroma. This is a coffee beer light to the point that you have to taste it carefully or you may miss it.

Bottle picked up at the brewpub but B:30 is the main place to find this gem... Pours a handsome dark brown verging on porter territory.. Huge dark tan head is foamy and leaves only sudsy lacing, seems lacking despite the lower ABV.. Coffee and "beer notes" are the big players here.. Coffee is great.. The rest of the brew is about as expected for a 3.5% brew... fizzy beer promises that help tie this together.
For many beer drinkers I get how this could be a great nitch on a Sunday morning, this would be very welcoming if it wasn't cold and had much better carbonation.
I completely dig the concept despite me never being able to stomach beer in the AM.
Coffee forward beer water, I guess so.

On tap at the WE taproom. Interesting take, with the added coffee. Most of the bitterness comes from the coffee which dominates this beer. If you don’t like coffee, stay away.
