22oz bottle poured into a Council Belgian-style tulip
Overall - a satisfying stout with lots of chocolate, oats, and roast, and supplemented with hints of dark fruit; fairly high carb level, but I didn't find it overbearing; quite pleasant
Consumption date: 05.23.16
Bottle date: not captured

Nice appearance. Just the right amount of carbonation. Very pleasant coffee aroma and a light coffee flavored ale. Well balanced. For a fairly new brewery they have a winner.

On tap at the brewery. Big black pour, small fluffy beige head. Roast grain evident at first sniff, oatmeal tempers the roastiness a bit in the taste. Smooth and slick, but a bit too watery. Pretty good all around, though.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. Black with a very generous tan head with large bubbles. The aroma was at first roasted grain, then a sweetness reminiscent of molasses. Overall, a very enjoyable beer.

L - nice, deep dark color to the beer ... but the head was distractingly fizzy (as in, like cola, with big visible bubbles and I could hear the fizz)
S - solid scent of a rich stout, though nothing stood out strongly or distinctively
T - the taste was good and hearty, not strong alcohol, just rich and dark ... solid, though again not spectacular
F - mouthfeel was the real letdown for me--this is an oatmeal stout, which should smooth things out, but the carbonation was actually fizzy, and effervescent like seltzer, not creamy at all on this bottle. I wonder if things got overcarbonated and there was some issue in the bottling process? If so, a shame--I wonder if this is significantly better on draft?
O - Overall, I wanted to like this more but really couldn't get past the lack of smoothness/fizziness for an oatmeal stout. It just didn't hit style for me ... and the taste and smell were just pleasant, just not standouts.

Draft at the taproom... Pours traditional black with dark khaki head... Aromas are light roastiness and something that makes me think coffee.. clean with a little sweetness to make the aroma move up into the nose.. Flavor is very nice... a little malty/sweetness goes a long way to really make the malts mesh... Thick and slick for such a low ABV brew... Pretty proper, curious to see if it sells, because IMO they really nailed the style with this one. Not normally a style I appreciate, but I know a good example when it is in front of me.
