16 oz can from Boise Co-op. Light, clear golden, small white foamy head. Gentle aroma of crackers and biscuit malts. Taste follows with more of the crisp malty flavors, backed up by a nice hoppy bitter bite. Well done.

after having some many crazy and weird beers from these guys, its kind of odd to have something a little more tame and traditional like this here kolsch, which is super light, dry, and drinkable in the hot weather, but not as distinct and inspiring as so many others have been from woodland empire. its clear and yellow in the glass with an average white head on it. the nose is somewhat mild, like the traditional kolsch elements are very light in this. the yeast is recognizable but very mellow, and i can appreciate the the grain is german, but it is without much of its usual characteristics. i like the cleanness of the fermentation, and the minerals, the water profile is right for the style. the yeast does its job, it tastes and feels dry and cold conditioned, and there is a high degree of refreshment here. that said, its lacking the robustness of a more classic example of a kolsch, both in terms of the malt and yeast flavors, and its not quite boring, but its really pretty minimal. nice to have a good clean yellow beer in here, but i almost expect southern hemisphere hops or something in this, given their propensity for jazzing things up. good kolsch but nothing special.
