16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Near black pour with filmy beige head. Aroma is toady malts, nutty elements, woody. Tadte is more roast malts, light coffee, touch of sweetness and a trailing bitterness.

a love this style and was pleased to see this one, but its really understated for the style, maybe lost a little bit on me after a number of robust beers before this one, but it seemed almost light and mild for what it is, still a very well made beer as is to be expected from these guys, but nowhere near as nuanced and interesting as i was hoping for. near black, high shine, and frothy headed, a nice looking beer from the tap, but ive seen the can art and those are real cool too! smells roasty and mineral forward, coal and soil and such, but not a ton of depth to me, a little breadiness from what seems to be an old world lager strain, but all is mild here, semisweet chocolate too maybe. the flavor is about the same, some bitter roasted barley to it, a neat earthiness, a fire and char element, maybe some dark chocolate and the yeast, but thats really all, and it all sort of hits the palate at the same instant, so its a pretty short experience for a style that usually can pack in quite a bit more than this. i like the low alcohol, it drinks easy and the body is pretty light too, soft feeling and without a whole lot of bitterness from the dark grain as it warms up. it was likely tough to fully appreciate this one next to a barrel aged stout and a big coffee beer, so ill have to revisit this one, its good, but it didnt jump out at me as amazing as baltic porter goes. ill track this down again and update...
