i swear to god the first time i saw this on tap at bittercreek it was called twin pines, but now im seeing it there as twin peaks, just like a week later, not sure whats up, its definitely not two different beers, and a real good pale ale whatever you call it, nice to see some innovation here, what was once my favorite in town is now a shadow of its former self, hopefully this is the start of a rebound for them. modern, not malty, bitter but not overly so, well dry hopped, super clean on the ferment and very fresh, a versatile food beer, lots of session appeal, and i think more outwardly hop driven than many, really well put together. golden toned, very active carbonation from the tap, looks light as these go. the hops are clean in aroma and flavor, some old school northwestern oomph, with notes of pine and grapefruit, but there is also a little more contemporary fruitiness, lychee, white grape, green melon, sort of a best of both worlds thing, and right at the apex when it seems its going to burst into the ipa realm, the hops sort of pause, the bitterness ceases to crank, and the grain rises up in balance, minimalist but fresh and important here. the ferment is so clean and this ends up so dry its seriously almost lager-like, a little oily hop resinous thing on the tongue but this is remarkably brisk, very professional overall. nice carbonation, lighter body and alcohol, really drinkable, and right now very fresh which makes it pop too. a less is more kind of pale ale with an excellent hop selection and dosage, will drink more of this one, and definitely think it has a future as a canned product. best woodland beer ive had in some time...
