This is a very good example of a beer that is "fine" or "acceptable". It's not a good beer, but it certainly isn't a bad beer, although I have my complaints. The beer seems over-carbed, which is present both in appearance and the mouthfeel. It isn't quite fizzy-cola level, but it's close. The taste is mostly standard, but it's a bit too bitter with strong elements of leather-tobbaco mixed with something else. Perhaps dark fruits more akin to what you'd expect in a stout than a BW, as it isn't just those like raisin or dates. What I'm trying to describe is an astringent character that is quite unpleasant.

low carbonation and the feel is a little lackluster but other than that, a really enjoyable barleywine. has a very old-world essence due to the barrel aging.
