Bottle from Bert's
Hazy deep golden color with a small quickly dissipating bubbly white head. Caramel maltiness with a resinous earthy pine on the nose. Thin caramel maltiness with some earthy pine and a bit of astringency. The spruce is subtle the beer is a bit thin and flabby. Not horrible.

I think I may have had a bad bottle. No head, little carbonation. Will revisit.

A deep peach color with ample carbonation, White head which dissipates quickly.
malty smell with a touch of spruce
Malty taste with a hint of spruce, nice finish with little hops
Mouth feel is medium
Overall a very good brew, Reminds me of a scottish spruce ale. Happy to see this brewed locally as the Scots ale is hard to find.
Will buy it again.

Consumed 8/31/14
A: Medium amber, with some light caramel highlights - pours with a medium-sized, eggshell white head, fades to virtually nothing, leaves a few spots of lacing
S: Pale, caramel, and light amber malts - a lot of caramel in the aroma, caramel candy and caramelized malts, without actually smelling sweet - some yeasty aromas that smell vaguely English, with some buttery aroma - not really detecting any spruce/spruce tips, but it is pleasant smelling
T: Mild, with a lot of caramel - nice malt profile with a nice balance of pale malts and some light amber - bread with lightly toasted bread, biscuits, with some caramel candy on the side - no bitterness to speak of - spruce adds a very faint pine flavor, which works surprisingly well
M: Medium body, low carbonation, finishes with some light sweetness
O: Also smells better than an outhouse
My parents have a place in Northwood, NH, and I just heard about this brewery yesterday. This was the only beer I could find in the area, and despite my general ambivalence regarding spruce-flavored beers, I had to buy it. And I do not regret it. It's not outstanding in any way, but it's extremely drinkable. The malt character is great and makes me genuinely curious about their other beers.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on August 31, 2014.
Medium to dark amber pour leading up to a large beige head. A slight cloudy appearance.
The aroma is subtle all around but the promised spruce pine is noted along with a caramel malt character and toasted malt character.
Medium body.
The taste brings out those hints of spruce intermingled with the malts but there is a rather buttery sort of aftertaste that assails the senses. Except for the finish this wasn't bad.
