Black Saison with cherries. Dry, mild roast and dark malt character. Round fruity esters lend a wonderful complexity.

Muddy brown, attractive mocha head, but no lacing and seems quite flat.
Phenolic forward with cloves. Kinda strong rubbing alcohol smell too.
Dry and light. Has some stickiness which helps give some hey to body.
Saison yeast with chocolate malts produces tantalizing flake of chocolate dipped bananas. Adding the cherry gives it a bit of sour funk, but this is minimal. Some woodsy tannins sap away from the sweet esters.
Overall, I like the combo of chocolate, cherries and belgian yeast. Rushing duck has a great beer with these flavors called de levende doden. If you like this beer search that out.

From 12/13/15 notes. On tap at Mug's Alehouse in NYC.
Pours a dark brown color. Not getting cherries, just a lot of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and some light spice and Belgian yeast.
Overall not super flavorful or my favorite from them...I'd pass next time.

Black saison,on tap at Mug's Ale House. Jet black colour, dark malts dominate rather than saison yeast which is a good thing. Dry finish not so crazy about.

On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY
A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short dark beige head that died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted and chocolate malts are present in the nose:
T: The taste follows the smell, but doesn't have as much roasted malts—it's more chocolatey and has hints of yeast and dark fruit.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very pleasant black saison—it has nice bold chocolatey flavors but has the lighter body mouthfeel and yeastiness that you would expect from a beer in this style.
Serving type: on-tap
