Bottle. Pours dark brown. Aroma is very odd. It seems to be spiked with cocktail bitters. Earth and spice. Fruits and a very light tartness. Not picking up the dark maltiness. If I tasted this beer with a blindfold on my dome I would never guess it to be a darker beer. The fruits are more expressive here. It is more tart than anticipated. The flavors don't play well together. It perplexes my senses and I don't enjoy the confusion.

L: Pours an off-black with hints of burgundy and a tight-knit creamy tan head. Very nice foam retention and lacing, creating the appearance of freshly poured coffee.

S: Mild roasted character with some tart dark fruit, cranberry, mild funk, and a hint of coffee. Towards the end of the bottle, the cranberries become more apparent.

T: Dark, semidry and moderately tart, with an understated salinity. There’s a pleasant light orange/tangerine flavor and a nice mouthwatering minerality as well. Balanced finish of tart fruits and a very mild roastiness. It’s probably a good thing that the salt is taking such a backseat with this particular gose, otherwise I think there would have been too many contrasting flavors.

F: Medium-bodied with a dry acidic mouthfeel and creamy, abundant carbonation.

Thoughts: Albeit unconventional, this is a very complex, very balanced, well put-together gose. With this beer being such a bizarre style, I doubt this was an easy feat to pull off. Transmitter is making some really great funk-forward beers, but I think they’re really knocking it out of the park with their goses – they’re doing some very interesting things with this style, all while maintaining an exceptional balance with these beers.
