Appearance: Extremely dark brown, almost black, but shows a hint of light in a few areas. Solid inch of thin dirty brown head with good lacing.
Aroma and Taste: Big hit of milk chocolate. Some butterscotch (not off-putting) and caramel sweetness. Combine the two and it's reminiscent of a Butterfinger candy bar. Hop bitterness to offset the sweetness. The taste opened up as the beer veered closer to room temperature.
Feel: Medium carbonation. The creaminess of the beer tends to artificially lower the perceived bubbliness. Some dryness as well.
Overall: It's a good schwarzbier but it doesn't have the same level of coffee or roast notes as described by the brewer. The beer seems confused.
