Pours ruby black and clear at the edges with a scant skiff of tan head that sinks to a ring leaving little lacing. Aroma is strong dried dark fruit, leather, almost-burnt sugar. The taste follows with prunes rehydrated in rum, leather, and an earthy, dirty bitterness to offset the overall raisininess of the rest. Active carbonation, a little boozy shudder, feels a wee bit hefty, but not as smooth as it could be. Nice beer. Could be more soft smooth and balanced/rich, fairly drinkable though.

Interesting, legit scottish ale from Scotland, excited to try. Bottled 9/25/16

Pours a decent foamy fizzy bubbly 1/2 finger head that fades at a med pace, a little spotty lacing, decent legs though, dark molasses brown color almost black.

Nose sweet malts, molasses, raw brown sugar and sugar cane fermenting, a little toasted caramel and caramelized sugars, a little toffee, and touch of fruity undertones, some fruity ester notes, a touch of grassy hop.

Taste brings more sweet flavors, lots of molasses, caramel, a little earthy herbal sugar cane fermentation, and a little biscuity note, toasted grain, spent grain bread and chewy doughy malts, germinated wheat too, plenty of toffee and caramel, with a mild bitter spicy grassy herbal hop in the background, as well as mild fruity esters, a little fig date fruit, and interestingly orange zest bitterness late, a sticky sweet finish with fair bitterness.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, a little chewy and creamy sticky sugar thing, decent carb.

Overall not bad, an interesting beer, not my style and even this is not really at my style, but still a nice beer in general.

Was able to snag a bomber of this marked for $5.63 it was marked half price at the House of 1,000 beers best before date is 10/15 so it's not THAT old!

A - Off to a great start an inch plus of mocha tinted head atop a very dark brown beer yet clear at the base. Head takes forever to dissipate.
S - Smells like a very sweet scotch ale with plenty of brown sugar and earthy chocolate malts. Dried fruits and peat smoke all around.
T - Dry and somewhat bitter with fruity taste and a hoppy finish I don't think I ever had a scotch ale so bitter. Not really bitter on the second taste sort of woody with a bit of burnt sugars and a nice level of molasses in the finish. I applaud it's complexity.
M - Body is perfect medium and easy to sip on. Somewhat creamy.

Overall I usually like my scotch ales a bit more sweet but the bitter and herbal aspect of the beer really works with the malt. I may go back and see for a second bomber!

Pours a clear deep brown producing 2 fingers of frothy, tan, somewhat lived head that leaves thin, pasty sheets & webs of lace. Aroma is earthy dark roasted malt with hints of dried fruit, char, raisins, molasses & bitter chocolate. Taste is fronted by dark "cake-like" malt, chocolate milk, bittersweet cocoa, & hints of smoke, char & dark fruit. Finishes with dark chocolate, toffee, prune, char, smoke, a little prickly spice & a bitterness that intensifies in the burnt, bitter, unsweetened chocolate, astringent & long lingering aftertaste. In my experience the bitterness is more intense in the finish & aftertaste than is common to the style. Liquid fruit cake is a nice description by the brewery but I would call it more like liquid plum cake Mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with moderate carbonation, thin but slightly silky, moderately prickly & drawing in the aftertaste.

A: The beer is black when viewed from afar, but upon closer inspection it is clear and very dark red when held up to a bright light. It poured with a short light tan head that died down a bit, leaving a head that covered half of the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose along with some faint hints of smoke.
T: The taste is rather malty, with lots of flavors of dark malts along with hints of caramel malts and spice.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some dryness in the finish.
O: This beer seems to become maltier as it warms up and develops more complexity.
