The Miami Canal connecting Dayton and Cincinnati was completed in 1829. It was a busy transport route carrying passengers and goods to and from these bustling Ohio cities. Legend has it that a group of smugglers used this waterway cloaked under the cover of darkness to trade for hops and beer. Hop Smuggler White IPA is dedicated to those risk-takers whose hops, beer and bravery bound these two fine cities together forever. Raise a pint of Hop Smuggler IPA. And toast to your neighbor to the north or south. Cheers!

This White IPA is yellow with orange highlights. It features citrus and fruity aromas and flavors from the Vic Secret and Centennial hops. The malt character is light and nutty. Spices such as Coriander, Grains of Paradise and citrus peels are added to accentuate the citrus flavor and aroma. Finishes very bitter. The Belgian yeast character compliments the fruity character of the hops and spices

Pleasantly surprised by this quasi local brewery....chunky appearance, nice nose, refreshing taste...bought in a four pack of tall boys and enjoyed on a warm summer's Eve....

16 ounce can, canned on 04/20/16. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch frothy white head that stuck around for a long time. There's also a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like citrusy hops (orange peel, tropical fruit), bready malt, and some grassiness. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some herbal spiciness and piney hops noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and a bit coating with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was an enjoyable brew, but next time I'll have to try this fresher. It's certainly worth trying if you've never had it before. $3.19 for a single can.

Using the craft brewer's second favorite grain, the talents at Warped Wing devise an hop profile of tropical and citrus, and then apply those signatures to a beer that's as much of wheat as it is of subdued barley flavor.

Hop Smuggler inherently carries a more diffused cloud of wheat proteins and hop haze than do typical beer; a whitish golden glow soon follows. Its lather mounts on top and trickles with defined lacy rings with each sip. An aromatic performance starts with citrus, grasses and herbs and follows with a taste of fresh baked bread, light caramel and a toasted nutty nuance.

A soft biscuit malt profile gives the beer a starchy creaminess but without any lumbering sweetness. What follows is a bright hop taste of slightly under-ripened citrus profile with hints of passionfruit, kiwi, gooseberry and dragon fruit. Bitter to close, the hop flavors are sharp but also smooth, offering low abrasion and a fresh herbal quality.

Medium-light on the palate, the beer's wheaten creaminess wants to register slightly richer in texture, but that brewer's second favorite grain offers only bready texture and taste without influential sweetness. Its bright finish lingers with fresh citrus peel, soft citrus rib and tropical fruit rinds with a pleasant grassy grip.

Decent white IPA. Very citrusy with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste and a good feel. Gotta admit that I'm surprised to see this beer listed as retired, because I just picked up a 4 pack at Kroger Austin Landing in Miamisburg last night. Plenty in stock there.

16oz pint served in a shaker pint glass at South Park Tavern, on tap.

Appearance: Cloudy gold, soapy large bubble head, no lacing.

Smell: Very hoppy. Floral, fresh cut citrus, and tropical fruit.

Taste: Very hoppy. Grapefruit citrus, pine, some fruit flavors. There is a hint of Belgian Wit underneath all of this, but it's overwhelmed by a hoppy AIPA flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: Nicely thick - bordering on chewy. A bit sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: Interesting, but I think this is basically a very hoppy AIPA with a wheat malt base. Not sure at all what really makes this a white IPA. Okay enough, but not something so great I'd want another one in an evening. Went well with a calzone.
