From the Boozebud Advent Calendar 2022, day 11.
L: The colour of flakes of gold in a prospector's pan - bright and gleaming and standing out from a mile away. A fluffy, bright-white head exists momentarily before diminishing to a foamy rim. Streams of tiny bubbles charge up the glass.
S: The smell is yeasty pineapple and spicy yet creamy lychees. Quite unusual and I'll not sure I'm a fan.
T: The taste has bitter dankness and a little bit of sweet pineapple from the nose but is quite one-dimensional - nothing else comes to the fore on the swallow or retronasally. The finish is dry and a little thin and washed out.
M: Carbonic prickle is medium-high. It leaves a bite on the tongue and teeth.
O: This is a little bit underwhelming for a West Coast IPA. The thinness of the finish and the lack of anything particularly compelling in the mouth let this one down. That said, as an introduction to West coast IPAs there are probably worse things to serve a budding craft beer drinker. Think of this as a gateway IPA.
Cheers!

Pale gold, almost apricot colored pour with white head; decent cap and lace; excellent clarity. Slight grapefruit nose. Grapefruit and fresh green hops up front; more pine straw than pine; dull, bitter hop finish. Moderate plus carbonation and medium lite mouthfeel with chalky, mineral tongue coating. Bitter hop linger with just a wee bit of citrus.
