473 mL can from Superstore; dated Aug 8 2018 and served well chilled. No convincing necessary to buy a beer that honours one of the greatest Leafs of the last thirty years. The scratched-up ice surface background is also a nice touch.

Pours an unfiltered golden-blonde with some haziness; one finger of foamy white head rises atop before receding within two minutes' time. A modest band of lacing is left behind, but not much else - a sickly-thin collar of froth is the only other remnant. Smells of cereal grains and bready, doughy sweetness, with minor notes of grassy hay, floral hops, apples and indeterminate citrus. Nothing too exciting, but more or less on point for the style.

Inoffensive and straightforward, as I'd expect of a kölsch; it tastes of clean, grainy pale malts, with a fair bit of crackery, doughy sweetness mixed within. These flavours are countered by a surprisingly sturdy continental hop kick on the back end - grassy, herbal and a tad spicy, with shades of citrus pith and floral bitterness leading up to an off-dry finish with a slight astringent quality. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that lends a pointed prickliness to this brew's texture; an easy-drinking, refreshing lagered ale that I tossed back effortlessly.

Final Grade: 3.84, a B+. Whitewater's KLR 93 is a definite step (or two) up from your everyday macro swill, which is enough to put it on par with some of the decent German exports we see in these parts. I haven't been watching the Buds much over the last few years, but this season looks like it's going to be an exciting one for the world's most serially-disappointed fanbase... so it's quite probable that I'll be enjoying additional servings of KLR 93 this season while watching the HNIC broadcast.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for about $3.25. Glad to see one the best Leafs ever with his name and nickname on a beer.

Appearance - Rich dark golden color, middling amount of haze and a big decadent 2 fingers of fluffy white head on top. Modest head retention and many bubbles. An attractive brew.

Smell - Quite grainy with an abundance of lemon zest and grapefruit pith. Grassy and floral aromas too. Quite nice.

Taste - Lots of grain, some caramel sweetness, a touch of lemon but quite quiet compared to the nose.Taste doesn't really last on the palate.

Mouthfeel -Medium-light bodied, plenty of light bubbly carbonation and a mildly drying finish.

Overall - Gilmour KLR 93 is a pretty good local Kolsch more on the grainy side of things and lacking some of the vinous aroma and taste I get from some of the better German examples. Nonetheless a good summer beer and worth trying.

Hazy gold, moderate head to a film. Not as juicy and full in the mouth as as lot of other koelsches I've had, which is actually okay by me. Fairly light going. Crisply hopped, fairly subdued malt for the style. Not bad. Not Killer, but not bad.
