473 mL can from the LCBO, one of six new beers in their Après-Adventure mixed pack. No packaging date; served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy orange-amber colour with flecks of sandy sediment visible within the liquid; it's crowned with more than an inch of lumpy, foamy, off white-tinged head that lasts for more than five minutes. A thin cap is surrounded by a wide, creamy cap that clings to the glass, not quite reaching the delicate band of lace above. It smells of sourdough, caramel and honeyed malt sweetness, with a hint of citrus oil.
It tastes of doughy malts, bread and toasted grain, followed by light caramel and honey sweetness. There's a twinge of metallicity by mid-sip, with leafy, herbal hops, bergamot and earthy bitterness developing at the tail end, lingering into the aftertaste before drying out considerably. Light in body, with low carbonation that barely registers on the tongue; feels smooth, flat and thin; real easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 3.45, a B-. Whitewater's Après-Skate is a decent facsimile of the real British article. i.e. not quite on par with the English imports you can find around here, but it works just fine filling up a sampler pack slot. An intriguing alternative to more commonplace styles of light beer, e.g. light lagers and session IPAs - any fan of light English ales should at least consider taking a flyer on this one.
