473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 17 2022 and served barely chilled.
Pours dark brown but not quite opaque, topped with one finger of tight, creamy, khaki-coloured head that falls apart after a few minutes. A thin collar is the only remnant worth mentioning, with little in the way of lace deposition. Very pronounced, nutty aroma - mostly hazelnut, but I am also reminded of peanut butter; I'm also getting hints of milk chocolate, cacao nibs, sugar and coffee cake.
Not bad for a flavoured stout - a little on the sweet side for sure, but it's a BeaverTails collaboration so I wasn't really expecting otherwise. It tastes of dark chocolate and chocolate hazelnut spread, with a creamy milk sweetness developing by mid-sip; cocoa, hazelnut, roasted grains and a hint of bitter dark chocolate come through on the back end. Sweet aftertaste of hazelnuts and semi-sweet chocolate chips that persists. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation that softly prickles the surface of the palate with each sip; feels smooth, with unexpectedly high drinkability. Theoretically sessionable, but do I like hazelnuts enough to try? Not really.
Final Grade: 3.77, a B+. Whitewater's Hazel Amour does what it set out to do, I can't argue that - its chocolate and hazelnut flavours are more than ample. The hazelnut extract genuinely delivers on the nose, but once you've been sipping this for a while, that flavour eventually becomes a little cloying. That being said, the first half of the glass was very enjoyable, and if you're desperately seeking a lighter hazelnut stout then I'd say this is one of the best options you'll find at the LCBO. Worth a look if it piques your interest, and I'll return again at some point.

473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.60 CDN.
Appearance - Very dark brown and near black. Two plus fingers of fluffy tan head with above average retention.
Smell - Lots of hazelnuts some chocolate over the roasty bits, but outside of the nuts this is subdued.
Taste - Moderately bitter, dark chocolate and hazelnuts add some sweetness and nuttiness. Semi-sweet finish with some nice roasty bits towards the end. Almost a hint of heat at the very end.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, carbonation is more prickly than expected. Somehow it works.
Overall - Pretty good hazelnut chocolate stout. Not earth shattering, but well conceived and executed. Definitely worth picking up if chocolate and hazelnuts are your thing.
