473 mL can from the LCBO, one of several new light beers included in Whitewater's Adventure Collection mixed pack. Dated May 10 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours foggy and effervescent, a small amount of sediment visible within its pale golden-hued body. It's fitted with a big, puffy, soapy white crown more than two inches tall; this lasts for over five minutes, decorating the glass with delicate lace as it drops off. Modest notes of real pineapple on the nose, interspersed with hints of grainy pale malts and sweet corn.
A mixed bag: flavour-wise, it's truly not bad at all. Grainy malts, bread and corn chips serve as the back bone, with subtle pineapple flavours underneath. Briefly fruity at the finish, but dry thereafter. The first sip was frothy, i.e. it foamed up in my mouth, which I find to be an annoying flaw in fruited lagers. Its medium-light body is more easily appreciated near the end of the glass, when the carbonation is less sharp, but still crisp. It got off to a rough start, but I really enjoyed the last half of this session.
Final Grade: 3.72, a B grade. Trail's End tastes fine as a pineapple light lager, but over-carbonation detracted from the experience. Granted, this became less of a problem over the course of the glass as the carbonation naturally exhausted itself, but who wants to pour a light beer and wait ten minutes? Plus, I imagine it'd be much worse if I hadn't served this can cold. Now I feel like I'm just ragging on this beer, so I'll close on a positive note: this is still sooo much better than that Sleeman Clear Pineapple I reviewed the other day.
