Canadian Hazy IPA
Inspired by the legendary wave on the Ottawa River, White Faced Monster is a Canadian Hazy IPA that captures the thrill of untamed waters. Mango-forward notes surge alongside bright citrus and lush, earthy undertones, creating a bold brew that's as intense and captivating as the river itself. 17 IBU

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. No date stamp or lot number. My fourth beer from the Cobden, Ontario brewery, and third for 2025. Approved by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; no canning date. Served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy, brassy-golden colour, kicking up two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that disintegrates within two or three minutes. It leaves behind an arcing pattern of delicate lace as it's reduced to a thin, sudsy cap and collar; looks good so far. Herbal, earthy and a bit weedy/dank on the nose, with bready, wheaty malts and hints of grapefruit; maybe a whiff of mango as it warms.
Good flavours: not exactly juicy, but its low bitterness and array of mellow hop notes make for an approachable IPA. Grapefruit & mango, with hints of kiwi, orange and cantaloupe; the malt backbone tastes of wheat and bread. Pithy citrus and herbal, woodsy hops provide some baseline bitterness toward the tail end, concluding with mango, grapefruit and earthy, dank hops that stretch into the aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with moderately low carbonation that gently tickles the surface of the palate, contributing to a soft, smooth, pillowy mouthfeel. Solid drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.78, a B+. Whitewater is not exactly one of Ontario's most prolific IPA brewers, but every once in a while they come up with a pretty good one, and I'd say White Faced Monster qualifies as the most recent example of such. I don't think this is an especially memorable IPA, but it's well balanced and eminently quaffable. Unlike most of their other IPAs, this is one that I would continue to buy, if fresh stock continues rotating through the LCBO. Worth trying at least once.
