Bottle from Tavour. Pours out a very dark brown, near black body, instant foamy had subsides to flat. Aroma is roasty, malty, peaty, chocolatey and a hint of smoke. Taste is all that and more, it just all comes together beautifully on the palate, bitter, smokey, peaty, roasty flavors, a nice slick feel and a lingering burn. This beer is awesome!

Poured into a MacAndrew's thistle glass. Pours a very dark mahogany browith little light transmission and a quarter finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick film with light lacing. Aroma of dark, lightly toasted and biscuit malt, molasses, light caramel and plum and a hint of smokiness. Flavor is toasted and biscuit malt, molasses, dry caramel, light well dried plums and mild peat. Nice lingering deep biscuit finish with a little more peaty smokiness revealed. Medium bodied with light to medium creaminess and nice mouth feel. This leans toward an old ale in its deeply biscuit malt body, with light plum fruit notes that usually dominate this style. The other flavors are dark and moderately complex, leaving a rich, interesting finish. I like both wee heavies and old ales and this one that combines some aspects of both hit the target for me. Unusually well integrated and mellow flavor for its depth. I'm impressed.

In what's basically an English styled barleywine but done with Scottish ale yeast and a Scotsman attitude, the beer crafters a Zaftig Brewing Company lend their hand to this time honored, powerfully intoxicating and lavishly sweet style.
Their Wee Heavy is much more like "lot heavy" as it layers in the snifter with a deep mahogany, mostly clear austere. A sturdy and ivory blanket of foam coats the surface while a malty sweet scent of molasses, sorghum, nuttiness and toasted fruits loom. Rich sweetness slathers the tongue with those promised earthen sweetnesses of deep caramelization, savory toast and pecan, and a hint of honey.
As the sweet barley maltiness layers onto the tastebuds, the rounded taste of maple candy, horehound and licorice each pull from the seared sweetness of brown sugar, molasses and sorghum. Complementary flavors of campfire, coffee and cocoa roll into an earthy character of slightly scorched earth and grilled fruits of date, fig, apple and cherry. Modest bitterness is light and coffee-like with a suggestion of tobacco and buckwheat honey rolling into finish.
Decadent and full on the palate, the beer's viscosity is robust and slightly oily, coating the mouth with a harmony of residual barley sugars and their savory counterpart. An earthy, syrupy coat frames the finish with faint suggestions of licorice, peppercorn and peat rolling into a sweet after palate in nearly dessert-like fashion.

At the brewery once again whilst my son has hockey practice. Set myself up with a 3 5oz sample set. Started with the wee heavy....and it's heavy. It poured a nearly opaque mahogany with thin white head that is leaving a lace. The scent has some sweetness, spice and alcohol. The taste has honey, toffee, caramel and alcohol. Definitely a sipping beer...at 10% it's a tough session. The Mouthfeel is fuller in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's great....just can't drink alot of it.

22 ounce bottle, no dating stated in the "bottled on" part of the bottle. Served in a thistle glass, the beer pours a hazy reddish/copper color with maybe a half inch tan head that stuck around for a long time. There's also a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and malty, the brew smells like toffee, toasted malt, dried fruit, brown sugar and some peat. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some grassy bitterness and caramel noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, full, it's a bit syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. Zaftig has another winner with this brew, definitely worth picking up this one! $9.99 a bomber.

22 Fluid Ounce bottle
Served in a snifter
This beer pours a deep rust color when held to the light. Otherwise, it appears a dark, ruddy brown. It is topped with an inch of tan head that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet and peaty. I get some caramel and alcohol, too.
It is sweet with some fig and date flavors as well as caramel, toffee, and toasted malt. The alcohol is mostly masked but does rear its head from time to time.
Full mouthfeel, low carbonation
This is a solid wee heavy with a high abv. It is perfect for a chilly December day.

Thoroughly enjoyed from the big bottle in a snifter. This FINE Wee Heavy pours a thick, dark, mahogany with a light head of off white foam that dies down quick to a thin layer and ring with no lacing. Nose of heavy brown sugar, heavy caramel, and some background booze. Flavors NAIL the style with brown sugars and toffee on all sides. Rich and flavorful with a light hop note on the back with moderately strong alcohol warmth. Surpassed my expectations. Light carbonation makes this a fine sipper with a syrupy, warm, boozy, mouth feel. Excellent. You like them strong---here ya' go!
I want to visit this brewery!
Cheers!

Poured an auburn color with brown highlights, or maybe the other way around? Nice carbonation. Perfect lacings. Looks like a nice beer.
Flavor is sweet, carmellized sugar, or brown sugar, or burnt sugar, but definitely something sweet. Malty. Sweet. Booze warmth can be noticed as well. Reminded me a bit of a dopplebock, but better in my opinion.
